Motorists are always at risk when traveling on crowded roadways across the state of Illinois. To prevent car accidents, drivers should always stay focused, pay attention to surroundings at all times and practice defensive driving habits. Regardless, nearly all drivers will be involved in a traffic accident at some point in their lives. Unfortunately, it seems an increasing percentage of these accidents are serious or even fatal.

A recent crash near Litchfield resulted in the death of one person and injuries to three others. The accident happened on Interstate 55 during the afternoon hours. According to reports, a wheel was blocking the left lane of the roadway and a car had stopped because of the wheel.

Reports indicated a sedan struck the car from behind and then collided with a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder. Tragically, authorities said an elderly passenger in the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Reportedly, the driver of the sedan as well as the drivers of the car and tractor-trailer all suffered injuries in the crash. Illinois State Police said they are still investigating the accident.

Losing focus for just a split second behind the wheel is enough to cause a crash. Unfortunately, car accidents continue to be a leading cause of death in Illinois. When negligence in an accident causes injury or death, victims and/or surviving family members can take action by seeking the services of an experienced attorney. A successfully litigated claim could result in much-needed compensation to help families recover any monetary losses that may have occurred due to an accident.
