Truck accidents: Interstate crash results in serious injuries

The U.S. economy continues to thrive, and as a result, more commercial vehicles are present on roadways across Illinois than ever before. Massive trucks such as tractor-trailers are used to ship goods and merchandise across the country to retailers and consumers. These trucks are often considered the backbone of the economy, but they are also very dangerous for those in smaller vehicles. Since tractor-trailers are so massive, truck accidents involving passenger vehicles have a higher probability of serious injury or death.

An accident in Cortland involving a van and a tractor-trailer seriously injured two people. The crash happened on Interstate 88 near mile marker 96 during the overnight hours. According to reports, the driver of a tractor-trailer crashed into the rear of a passenger van.

Fortunately, no one had to be extracted from the van, police said. However, two people were injured and transported to a local medical center for treatment, according to authorities. Reportedly, the crash didn’t totally close the roadway and traffic was able to get around the crash site. Police say the accident remains under investigation.

As the economy continues to grow and expand, truck accidents such as this will likely happen more frequently due to higher volumes of commercial traffic. Those in Illinois who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one due to negligence in a crash may want to consider seeking the services of an experienced legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could provide much-needed financial relief to help with medical expenses and replacement of lost wages.
