Two men have lost their lives in a tragic motor vehicle collision in Illinois. The head-on car accident took place on a recent Thursday morning. Sometimes, these types of car accidents happen due to a driver’s carelessness, which is grounds for litigation.

The recent Illinois accident took place at around 2:16 a.m. along Route 12. Police said that a minivan was driving south in the road’s northbound lanes. It then struck a delivery truck.

Authorities said that both the driver and the passenger passed away at the scene of the car accident.  They were ages 25 and 24, respectively. Police continued to investigate the cause of the head-on collision.

The surviving loved ones of the passenger in the minivan may choose to file a wrongful death claim in this situation, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. Although the driver of the minivan who reportedly caused the head-on accident passed away, his estate may still be sued. Likewise, anybody else with an ownership interest in his minivan could be named in the lawsuit.

Liability has to be established based up on a showing of negligence before an Illinois civil court will determine claims for damages. If the plaintiff is successful, the judge may award the plaintiff monetary damages that may help to cover losses associated with these types of car accidents. These may include funeral costs and even the loss of support for dependents, for example. No amount of money can undo the events that resulted in the accident, but it may help the deceased passenger’s family members to more easily move on from the crash.
