WM Partner Frank Morrissey, Lead Counsel in $5 Million Gastric Bypass Surgery Settlement, Featured in Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

Francis P. (Frank) Morrissey, name partner in noted Chicago plaintiffs’ law firm Wise Morrissey, LLC (WM), was lead counsel in a $5 million medical malpractice settlement with Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation. Morrissey was featured and pictured in a February 4, 2014, article in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin that described the settlement.

Approved on December 17, 2013 in Cook County Court, was on behalf of the guardian of a 47-year-old woman who developed extensive bleeding and clotting and digestive tract trauma following gastric bypass surgery. One of the two original Advocate Health surgeons removed the blood clots in a follow-up procedure, but when problems reappeared a second follow-up procedure was needed and the patient remained in intensive care for four weeks — after which she suffered acute kidney dysfunction, hyperkalemia and cardiac arrest. The result was a brain injury and significant weakness in both legs that rendered her wheelchair-bound. The settlement was reached after the deposition of the plaintiff experts on the case, although the case against the surgeons is still pending

Mr. Morrissey has been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers and Illinois Leading Lawyers as an effective trial lawyer who has built a reputation representing seriously injured persons in medical malpractice lawsuits, product liability and personal injury actions.
