Our client was a principal at a Chicago public school, where a fight involving at least six students broke out. At her direction, the school called 911 to report the fight, to report a weapon in the school (based on a student's information) and to request police and medical help. Hours later, after the students were arrested, police returned to the school and arrested our client for disorderly conduct; the city of Chicago later sued her in an attempt to recover the cost of the 911 call. Both legal actions were later dropped, but our client sought our help to demonstrate that her arrest was a willful and wanton abuse of police power and that the defendants were guilty of malicious prosecution. We took the matter to court and secured damages for harm to her reputation, emotional distress and lost income.
